Wedding card matter for a son's wedding is written by the groom's parents: they announce the wedding of their son, name the bride with her parents, and invite guests to the functions they host. On the groom's side that usually means the baraat or jaan, when the family travels to the bride's venue, and often the reception. Below are samples in Gujarati, Hindi and English, with the lines that differ from a daughter's card.

About the samples

The names, dates and places in the samples are examples. Have an elder read the final card matter before it's printed or shared.

The relatives' lines

Groom's family cards often end with the relatives who look forward to welcoming guests. A short version keeps a digital card readable.

Gujarati

ટહુકો: મારા કાકાના લગ્નમાં જરૂર જરૂર આવજો.

The baraat or jaan details

If guests are joining the procession, the card or a separate message should make the logistics clear:

  • Where the baraat gathers, and the exact departure time.
  • Whether transport is arranged, and from where.
  • The dress code for the baraat, if any.
  • When guests can expect to return, for a baraat to another city.
A message for baraat guests

Baraat details: we gather at home at 5:30 pm, and the buses leave at 6 sharp for Radha Krishna Vatika. Return buses at 11:30 pm. Safa tying from 5 pm.

The reception card

When the groom's family hosts the reception, many families send it as a separate card, especially if it's in another city or mainly for colleagues and friends. It names the couple together, as hosts welcoming the new bride: “Together with the Gupta family, Amit and Priya invite you to their reception.”

Common slips

  • Honorifics swapped: चि. for the groom and सौ. कां. for the bride; ચિ. and ચિ. સૌ. કાં. in Gujarati.
  • The bride's parents' names missing or misspelled. Confirm them with the other family in writing.
  • The baraat time given without the gathering point.
  • Different spellings of the groom's name between the Gujarati or Hindi and English pages.

The parents' wording guide covers the bride's side, and the Hindi card matter guide has more lines. More are under wording guides.
