AI invitation or ready template: which should you choose?

AI invitation or ready template? A plain comparison of speed, uniqueness, cost, languages and control, with the occasions where each one works better.

Choose a ready template when you want a proven, polished layout that's already designed for your occasion, such as a multi-page kankotri or a video invitation, and you're happy to change the names and details. Choose an AI invitation when you have a particular look in mind, want something no one else has, or need an invitation for an occasion the template library doesn't cover. Many families use both: a template for the main wedding card and AI designs for the functions around it.

When a template is the better choice

  • A traditional multi-page kankotri with a fixed order of pages that elders expect.
  • A video or animated invitation, with music and transitions.
  • A design you've already seen and liked, perhaps at a cousin's wedding.
  • When you want certainty: what you see in the library is exactly what you get.
  • When time is very short and you'd rather fill in details than describe a design.

When AI is the better choice

  • You have a particular look in mind: a Pichwai cow, your family's colours, a peacock theme.
  • The occasion is unusual, such as a retirement, a society puja or a kitty party, and no template quite fits.
  • You want several matching designs, one for each function, in one family of colours.
  • You want to add a reference, such as a photo of an old printed card to follow or reuse its wording.
  • You want something no one else will have.

Using both

The two work well together. A common pattern is a template for the main wedding invitation, chosen for its proven layout, and AI designs for the haldi, mehndi and sangeet, described “in the same colours as our wedding card”. Another is the reverse: an AI design for a one-of-a-kind main card, with templates for the simpler functions. Guests only see invitations that look like a set.

Matching across both

If you start with a template, note its main colours from the editor. When you describe the function invitations to ShubhLink AI, name those colours so the set matches.

An example: one wedding, both ways

Here's how one made-up family might use both. For the main wedding card, they choose a multi-page kankotri template, because the grandparents expect the traditional order of pages, and the design is already proven. For the haldi, mehndi and sangeet, they describe each one to ShubhLink AI “in maroon and antique gold like our kankotri”: yellow and marigold for the haldi, green and pink for the mehndi, deep blue and gold for the sangeet. For the reception, which is mostly for colleagues, they go back to a template with an English layout. Four functions, two tools, one look.

Quality and checking

Templates are designed by hand, so their layout is fixed and tested. AI designs are generated, so the first result may need a change or two: names a little bigger, a motif smaller, the venue moved. With both, the same rule applies before sharing: read every name, date, time and venue, and have someone fluent read any Hindi or Gujarati.

Spellings

With AI, check spellings especially carefully in Hindi and Gujarati. The AI can slip on a name or a word; a template only shows the text you typed.

Cost

Templates are priced per design: some are free, others are bought once and include the editor and sharing. ShubhLink AI uses credits: Standard uses free credits that refill on a schedule, and Premium uses purchased credits for richer detail. The current numbers change from time to time, so see the templates library and the ShubhLink AI page for today's prices.

Try both

The quickest way to decide is to look at a few templates for your occasion and, in a separate tab, describe your invitation to ShubhLink AI. The AI invitation maker guide shows how, and the description tips help you get a good first design. More AI guides are under ShubhLink AI.

Questions people ask

Is an AI invitation better than a template?

Neither is better in general. Templates give a proven layout and special formats like video; AI gives a design made for your description. Many families use both.

Can I make a video invitation with AI?

ShubhLink AI makes painted pages. For video or animated invitations, start from a video template in the library.

Will someone else have the same AI design?

An AI design is made from your own description, so it's very unlikely anyone has the same one. A template may be used by other families.

Can I mix templates and AI designs for one wedding?

Yes. Use the same colours in your descriptions as in the template, and the invitations will look like a set.
